Dr. Hosai Hesham - Secretary
Immigrating to the United States at the age of 12, Hosai Hesham recalls the challenges a newly arrived immigrant faces when coming into a new country. She considers her family lucky to have had guidance and support from previously arrived and established relatives. Grateful for all the assistance they received, Hosai still ponders whether the presence of an organized Afghan community would have made the transition for her and her family seamless. Overcoming the few obstacles that all newly arrived immigrants face, Hosai obtained her MD and is now an Otolaryngologist at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
Hosai grew up in Worcester, MA where she completed her primary and secondary education. She attended College of the Holy Cross, graduating in 2000 with a degree in Biology. Hosai obtained her MD from Albany Medical College in 2004. After graduating from medical school, she moved to Washington DC to continue her training in Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery at Georgetown University Hospital.
Hosai loves the Washington, D.C. region where she has enjoyed being part of the local Afghan-American community. She has been part of many medical and non-medical humanitarian missions. Hosai is also serving as vice president of the Afghan Medical Professionals Association in America. She is now living and working in Washington, D.C. as a staff Otolaryngologist at the D.C. Veterans Administration Medical Center.
